About the Client

The Client is a European IT product company that provides an easy-to-use communication device for senior citizens living independently, along with a companion mobile app — for the senior's device and for their relatives' or helpers' mobile devices — to communicate with seniors and monitor and manage their daily schedule.

Catching App Issues Before Users Do

The Client already had a cross-platform mobile application used on the seniors' tablet-based communication device and on relatives' and helpers' mobile devices. To improve the application's stability and availability by addressing issues before they reached users, the Client needed a system to continuously monitor the app servers.

Zabbix Monitoring With Severity-Based Alerts

An INNERLUXES infrastructure engineer installed and configured Zabbix agents to monitor the Client's Linux-based application servers running on Exoscale instances, set up to watch the metrics that matter and react automatically:

  • Availability metrics — such as free server disk space and network connection state.
  • Performance metrics — such as memory utilization, network bandwidth usage, packet loss, and interface error rate.
  • Visualization — template-based graphs and schemes to visualize the tracked server parameters.
  • Scenario-based triggers — metrics grouped by possible issue scenarios (for example, app availability problems), each with triggers that react to unacceptable values and raise notifications by severity: information, warning, critical, and disaster.
  • Multi-channel alerts — once values reach a point of risk, the Client is notified through several channels, including email and Telegram, to prevent app issues in time.

  • The Client gained a well-functioning monitoring system that helps ensure the availability and stable performance of its cross-platform mobile application.
  • Using the server monitoring data, the Client can proactively identify and resolve emerging application issues and improve the user experience.
