Summary

INNERLUXES built a European commercial bank an award-winning iOS and Android mobile banking app, backed by a custom Java back end. Beyond full-cycle banking operations, the app adds two-step authentication, an SMS-banking fallback, and an augmented-reality feature that guides users to the nearest ATM, self-service terminal, or banking center.

About the Client

The Client is a European commercial bank with a nationwide network of service centers.

The Challenge

The Client needed iOS and Android apps that would deliver true mobility, high-quality customer-oriented service, and strong security, along with custom back-end development. It trusted INNERLUXES with the project for its deep understanding of the banking industry and extensive iOS and Android development experience.

A Full-Cycle Mobile Banking App

With only a project manager on the Client's side, INNERLUXES handled the full cycle of mobile banking app development — from requirements analysis through design and prototyping to implementation, testing, and market release. Both teams focused on a rich user experience, so the app lets users perform a wide range of operations: balance checks, credit and deposit management, money transfers and online payments (including scheduled and automatic payments), mobile top-ups, currency exchange rates, and more. It also pushes device capabilities with GPS navigation to find the nearest service point, push notifications, and integration with SMS-banking when the internet connection fails.

Security. As information security was a key concern, INNERLUXES implemented a two-step user identification system from a leading authentication provider, based on a PIN linked to the app at activation. Because no external interference is allowed, the app stays secure even if the PIN is known to a third party — and it's hassle-free, since users don't generate separate codes for each session.

Design. Keeping a minimalist approach, the team created a slick interface with crisp colors, intuitive navigation, and configurable dashboards. Easy-to-use feedback forms let users submit security alerts, request a call back from the bank, and rate and review service points.

AR navigation. The app uses augmented reality to help users find the bank's nearest self-service terminal, ATM, or banking center. After setting a filter for the type of service point, the user sees the live camera image augmented with a radar, a compass-precision indicator, and an arrow that guides them to the point of interest while showing the remaining distance.

Results

The app was successfully delivered and is available on the App Store and Google Play. By helping customers become more flexible, save time, and gain greater control over their finances, it earned widespread recognition and multiple mobile banking awards. INNERLUXES continues to deliver updates and fixes based on feedback from users and test groups, and the Client plans further unique features and a tablet version in cooperation with INNERLUXES.
