Design of a Mobile Baby Care App Complementing Smart Medical Devices

A Swiss company offering technologies and tools for home health care and baby care wanted to enhance its Bluetooth-enabled newborn- and baby-care devices — which couldn't display data insights to patients — with a mobile app to aggregate, store, and present information in a user-friendly way. The Client is a Swiss company providing customers with cutting-edge technologies and comprehensive tools for implementing full-cycle business projects in home health care and baby care.

The Challenge

As its medical devices had no functional capacity to display data insights to patients, the Client decided to enhance these Bluetooth-enabled newborn- and baby-care devices with a mobile application that would aggregate, store, and display information to individuals in a user-friendly way. INNERLUXES outcompeted other bidders with a solid proof of concept and won the opportunity to create a detailed requirements specification.

The Solution

For the project, INNERLUXES allocated a team of business analysts with proven experience in medical app development. To let parents accurately assess their babies' health, they defined the following set of features:

• Input a newborn's personal data.
• Save new measurements.
• Display growth and weight charts.
• Track both positive and negative trends with automated alerts on possible problems with the newborn's development.
• Compare measured weight and height with the WHO standards for the baby's age.
• Control the baby's nutrition by inputting the quantity of food consumed, including breast and bottle feeding (manual input at this stage; later to be enabled via synchronization with the Client's milk-machine device).

With this functionality, the application will enable early-stage detection of any problem related to malnutrition, such as obesity and undernourishment.

The Results

• The concept created by INNERLUXES's business analysts allows the Client to advance its market offer with an application that supports newborns' normal physical growth and development.
• Following the concept, the team moved on to defining the architecture and technology stack to begin implementing the mobile app.
