The Client is a US company that renders services to 500+ nursing homes.
Overlapping Cubes and Duplicate Reports Limited the Existing BI System
Having implemented BI reporting based on Strategy Companion Analyzer, the Client ended up with multiple overlapping, automatically generated cubes with restricted tuning possibilities, limited functionality, and no naming convention. Dissatisfied with this analytical system, the Client chose INNERLUXES as an expert in business intelligence services. The ultimate objective was to develop an analytical system with a universal cube and to establish standardized, comprehensive reporting.
Security was another challenge. The existing process ran as follows: after the system produced a report, the administrator copied it, applied filters, and allocated duplicate filtered reports to different folders, with each folder showing information about a particular US state.
A Universal Analytical Cube on a Microsoft SQL Server Data Warehouse
The Client and INNERLUXES set off with a trial project. Its scope included developing an analytical cube based on one of the existing cubes generated by Strategy Companion Analyzer. Once the trial project finished successfully, the Client commissioned INNERLUXES's team to proceed with a universal analytical cube.
INNERLUXES started by creating a data warehouse based on Microsoft SQL Server. The team then developed three ETL modes:
- From scratch
- Incremental
- Monthly publishing
INNERLUXES's team also delivered a universal analytical cube that embraced four important business areas, as identified by the Client:
- Residents
- Encounters (any contact with a resident: in person, by phone, or via the internet)
- Claims (invoices issued after encounters)
- Transactions (invoices paid and due)
The team kept Strategy Companion Analyzer as the user interface technology.
At the closing project stages, INNERLUXES's team worked to bring security to the Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) level. This avoids duplicate reports for different users: instead, one report is created, and users access particular information blocks according to their permissions.
Standardized Reporting and Simpler Analytical System Support
The Client benefited from an improved analytical process and standardized reporting. The consolidation achieved at all levels — database, SSAS, and reporting — also simplified support of the analytical system.
