The Customer offers products and expert solutions to enhance the user experience in all aspects of digital imaging, including the processing, compression, storage, printing, and display of digital images.

Two Innovative Apps With Demanding Integration and Support Needs

Seeking to extend its product portfolio, the Customer was developing two innovative cross-platform applications for image processing on Windows and OS X, with advanced features and seamless integration with third-party tools:

• An optical-correction application that had to work both as a standalone tool and as a plugin for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Aperture, offering visual tools for making optical corrections, resolving complex perspective problems, and correcting volume deformation.
• A camera companion application, a standalone tool for previewing and one-click import of photos and videos from the Customer's branded compact camera to the desktop, which also had to pair as a plugin with Adobe Lightroom and the Customer's proprietary camera.

The Customer also planned to introduce a user forum for comprehensive, timely support. Both the ambitious integrations and the forum required thorough testing, so the Customer turned to INNERLUXES for testing specialists able to perform full-cycle testing and turn test cases into a comprehensive support solution.

Full-Cycle Testing in Scrum, With Automation and a User Forum

Working within Scrum in short two-week iterations, INNERLUXES's testing specialists performed functional, localization, and regression testing after each new feature was delivered, including designing and running automated tests for functional and regression coverage. The approach combined automation, integration verification, and user-driven test design:

• Automated test suite — about 100 test cases were developed to run in Scripting Qt, which accelerated finding bugs affecting the applications' critical functions.
• Adobe plugin integration testing — the team ran the application plugins in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Aperture in turn, confirming features such as one-click perspective adaptation and the ability to edit and save changes without disrupting the host application; any bugs were reported and addressed promptly.
• Living checklists — an updatable collection of 50+ tests and checklists covered all existing features, worked out in close cooperation with the developers before each new feature was implemented.
• Traceability — every bug was linked to its test cases, the Customer's requirements, and tasks, making issues easier to identify and the interconnections between features easier to explore.
• User forum as a test source — the forum maintained by the testing team became a valuable source of ideas; test cases were created from user-reported troubles and proposed improvements and change requests, helping deliver fixes quickly.

Two Products Shipped and a Lasting Partnership

• The Customer met both major challenges — seamless integration with third-party tools and a user forum that feeds test cases from real user experience.
• The portfolio was enriched with two innovative products: a multilingual desktop application for the Customer's branded portable camera and a multifunctional image processing application.
