Summary

A US healthcare company needed to migrate its SharePoint Server 2010 intranet portal to Office 365 — moving all content, document versions, and metadata to the cloud while retaining the same security groups and permissions model. INNERLUXES completed the migration to SharePoint Online in four days, using a purpose-built console application and pilot migrations to verify data integrity, without disrupting business processes or user activities.

About the Client

The Client is a US healthcare company providing disability and absence management services.

The Challenge

The Client approached INNERLUXES with a request to migrate data from its intranet portal based on SharePoint Server 2010 to Office 365. All content, including every document version and its metadata, had to be moved to the cloud. The Client also wanted to migrate its security groups and retain the same permissions model in the new Office 365 solution.

The Solution

After carefully reviewing the Client's requirements, INNERLUXES's team proceeded with the implementation of a cloud solution on Office 365 SharePoint Online, without customizations or third-party integrations. To avoid hampering user activities during the migration process, INNERLUXES's team enabled users to keep changing and uploading new content to the cloud intranet portal on SharePoint Online.

The project consisted of three stages:

  • Verification of the Client's on-premises environment and configuration of SharePoint Online for data migration.
  • Intranet portal content migration and configuration of general security settings.
  • Site testing and verification of data integrity.

It took four days to complete the intranet portal migration to SharePoint Online. To make the process more convenient, our team developed a specialized console application. Using it, INNERLUXES's team ran several pilot migrations to verify the integrity of the transferred data — confirming that all content, document versions, metadata, security groups, and permissions were migrated to Office 365 correctly.

The Results

  • The Client received a cloud-based intranet portal on SharePoint Online deployed on its Office 365 account.
  • The content migration was done according to all the Client's requirements, and the project did not affect business processes or user activities.
  • The Client retained the integrity of the portal data as well as the specified security groups and permissions model.
  • Moving the portal to Office 365 SharePoint Online let the Client leverage the benefits of the cloud environment, including flexibility, affordability, and high security.
