New Web-Demo Features for a Medical Imaging SaMD Driving 3x User Growth

About the Client and Its Product
The Client is a global provider of medical imaging solutions powered by AI. To help clinicians interpret radiological studies faster and with greater confidence, it developed a desktop SaMD (software as a medical device) that detects a wide range of findings in chest X-rays and computed tomography (CT) brain studies.
As interest in the product grew, the Client built a web demo to present its value to radiologists worldwide. The demo showcases the SaMD's main capabilities and lets users upload a limited number of their own radiographic images for analysis. To enable near-real-time processing of those images, the demo interface is connected to the same medical image analysis engine that powers the desktop SaMD.
To streamline the demo's further development and gain a clear understanding of EU- and US-specific SaMD regulations, the Client sought a reliable tech vendor to work closely with its in-house team on the demo's evolution.
SaMD Web Demo Development
Owing to INNERLUXES's long experience in web development and a large portfolio of healthcare IT projects across the EU and the US, the Client chose us as a development partner. INNERLUXES assembled a dedicated team — a senior business analyst with an M.D. degree, two front-end developers, and a senior test engineer — and began with an in-depth analysis of the SaMD and the Client's needs for each of the two web-demo modules: the already-launched chest-X-ray (CXR) module and the to-be-developed computed-tomography-brain (CTB) module. A key goal was maximum consistency between the desktop app and the web demo in design and technical features.
Window-pan-zoom for the chest-X-ray module. At the Client's request, INNERLUXES added window-pan-zoom capabilities to the CXR module, enabling demo users to manipulate chest X-rays and optimize the viewing of findings. With the new functionality, users can adjust the contrast of the displayed image (windowing), move the image position within the viewing window, and zoom in and out to magnify specific parts. The team also enabled analytics of users' interactions with this functionality via Matomo, an open-source web analytics platform, helping the Client better understand user expectations and inform further modernization.
The computed-tomography-brain module. Satisfied with the result, the Client asked INNERLUXES to develop the CTB web-demo module next. Using the desktop SaMD as the reference point for functionality and user experience, the team created a comprehensive CTB concept, composed a detailed software requirements specification (SRS), and developed the demo's front end.
Testing and stabilization. INNERLUXES conducted manual functional (including regression and smoke) and cross-browser testing. The senior test engineer designed a comprehensive test strategy and plan, ensuring the CXR window-pan-zoom functionality and the CTB web interface performed as expected on Windows and macOS. The team created and executed over 3,400 manual test cases, thoroughly documented in a requirement traceability matrix (RTM) confirming 100% test coverage. INNERLUXES continues to stabilize and refine the demo as the Client's needs evolve — for example, uploading and optimizing over 4,000 brain CT studies (up from the 400 planned initially) for a seamless multi-plane viewing experience.
Compliance consulting. As the Client considered entering the European market, INNERLUXES's senior business analyst prepared a comparison of local versus GDPR data-privacy requirements and designed a plan for achieving the demo's GDPR compliance. Working closely with the Client, the analyst helped define what personal data the demo collects and processes, create data-flow diagrams and define data-access controls, model clear GDPR-compliant consent forms, and outline adjustments to the demo's privacy policy (data-processing methods, retention period, and more). The analyst also outlined the changes needed to meet FDA regulations, should the Client later decide to enter the US market.
