Summary

INNERLUXES built a HIPAA-grade, microservices-based telehealth solution — a web platform and native mobile apps — for Purelife Health, a Nigerian digital-health provider. Delivered market-ready in nine months, it connects physicians and patients through secure video, messaging, clinical documentation, and medication management.

About the Client

Purelife Health is a Nigerian digital-health provider serving patients across Lagos, Ibadan, and Abuja — medicine orders, lab tests, and doctor consultations through one platform, where reliability on real-world networks is non-negotiable.

The Need for an Effective Telemedicine Solution

In response to rising demand for remote healthcare, the Client set out to develop a telemedicine solution to connect physicians and patients. It needed to support secure video conferencing and instant messaging, pharmacy integration, clinical documentation, and prescription and medication-intake management.

Building a Web Platform and Native Mobile Apps

Knowing INNERLUXES from previous projects, the Client engaged us to build a HIPAA-compliant solution comprising a web platform and native iOS and Android apps.

A flexible project team. For the initial phase, INNERLUXES assigned a project manager, a business analyst, and a UX/UI designer, who defined the scope and objectives, elicited requirements from the Client and target users, and translated them into user-friendly design concepts. For development and deployment, the team grew to add four developers (two back-end, one front-end, one Android), a QA specialist, and three more UX/UI designers for comprehensive coverage across features and platforms, with the Client providing its own iOS developer.

Strategic choices. Video conferencing was a key feature, and although the Client initially wanted to build the video layer from scratch, INNERLUXES recommended a ready-made platform to ensure a seamless experience while saving time and cost. For the architecture, INNERLUXES proposed a microservices-based design that could accommodate growing demand without compromising performance and stay flexible and adaptable to evolving healthcare scenarios.

Within nine months, INNERLUXES delivered a market-ready telemedicine solution with robust functionality:

Communication and collaboration

  • Customizable doctor and patient profiles — specialists can update patient details, share documents, and view connected devices.
  • Encrypted real-time audiovisual communication and instant messaging, including doctor-to-doctor chat for case collaboration.
  • Collaboration between providers through shared patient records and joint decision-making tools.
  • Referrals management.

Clinical document management

  • Uploading organization-specific templates and sending them to patients for signing.
  • Creating assessment forms and appointment notes, with schedule management by day, week, or month — creating, cancelling, duplicating, and filtering appointments.

Medication management

  • Pharmacy integration via HL7 standards for automatic updates to patient drug lists.
  • Prescription tracking and dosage and dosing-schedule management.
  • Detailed medication records — patients and specialists can view all prescribed medications, active and completed.
  • A list of confirmed drug classes, including Medi-Span drug class codes, and detailed risk descriptions for each medication.

Security and HIPAA compliance

  • A role-based access permissions matrix that can be selectively tuned — for example, denying a care-team member access to a particular patient's data or part of it.
  • Data encryption, access controls, and secure transmission protocols to ensure PHI security and privacy in line with HIPAA.
