Migration of Automated Patient Appointment Reminder Software

Summary

A web-based patient engagement service that lets dentists remind patients about upcoming appointments via personalized texts needed to be migrated to another server. INNERLUXES's system administrators handled the migration by cloning the site to the new server and switching DNS, then set up Zabbix-based monitoring to support the service's future performance tuning and maintenance.

The Client is a German company that develops and supports web-based applications for corporations, brands, and organizations across Europe.

The Challenge

The Client's customer needed to migrate its web-based patient engagement software — which offers dentists the ability to remind patients about upcoming appointments via personalized texts — to another server. Besides sending text messages, the service also supports postponed delivery and notifications on delivered/undelivered messages, along with statistics.

The Solution

Due to certain limitations of the initial web service's architecture, INNERLUXES's system administrators tackled the migration by creating a complete copy of the website on another server and then changing the DNS addresses.

To support the project effectively in the future, INNERLUXES enabled data gathering by installing the Zabbix agent and additional scripts. The collected statistics allow monitoring of service performance to:

• Identify and fix performance gaps.
• Assist with relevant website fine-tuning.
• Facilitate the subsequent maintenance.

The Results

• INNERLUXES successfully migrated the dental appointment-reminder web service to the new server.
• Zabbix monitoring and scripts give the team visibility into service performance for ongoing tuning and maintenance.
