Client's Overview

The Client is a global industrial services company supporting automotive factories and logistics operations. It manages high-volume vehicle processing for major OEMs — including receiving VINs from plants, inbound rail, and haulers; assigning yard locations; capturing vehicle condition; generating charges; and coordinating outbound shipments.

The Project

The Client partnered with INNERLUXES to build a custom Vehicle Processing System (VPS) inside Salesforce Service Cloud, replacing legacy components and paper-driven workflows with a single cloud platform. The new solution required more than 40 domain-specific custom objects, automated business rules, and user-friendly Lightning Web Components to support operators, drivers, and supervisors. The system needed to handle the entire lifecycle — from VIN arrival and yard assignment to railcar loading, damage capture, and EDI file creation — while remaining scalable for future enhancements.

The Approach

INNERLUXES implemented a fully tailored Salesforce data model and set of interactive components to streamline daily yard operations. The team built a comprehensive data model with all required custom objects — including ramp codes, yard locations, railcars, vehicle records, charge records, damage entities, and assignment groups — to accurately reflect the Client's operational ecosystem.

Complex automation was developed using Apex, formula fields, roll-up summaries, and validation rules to enforce business logic and maintain data integrity. To support fast, on-ground workflows, INNERLUXES designed intuitive Lightning Web Components for VIN scanning, railcar loading, user assignment, batch updates, and vehicle movement management. Quick actions, page layouts, and custom interfaces were configured specifically for handheld devices used in the field. Throughout the build, the team conducted iterative QA across Salesforce Sandbox environments and validated behavior on Windows, macOS, Linux, and multiple browsers to ensure a consistent, dependable user experience.

The Result

The final Salesforce platform delivered a fully digital Vehicle Processing System that streamlined every operational step. VINs can be scanned and processed instantly, with the system assigning yard locations, guiding railcar loading and unloading, and tracking deck capacity in real time. Vehicle records are now complete and consistent, with unified status, hold, and damage management. Teams work faster using multi-user assignment tools, while logic-based routing rules and automated EDI generation ensure each vehicle follows the correct workflow without manual effort.

On the platform side, the system includes more than 40 custom objects purpose-built for the automotive yard domain. Apex-based scheduled jobs, such as automated railcar record imports, keep data accurate and up to date. A modern UI replaces all legacy components, supported by a scalable Salesforce Service Cloud architecture that evolves with the Client's operational needs.

The Impact

  • Faster, more accurate vehicle processing: real-time scanning and automated assignments reduced manual decision-making and improved throughput across inbound and outbound workflows.
  • Centralized visibility across yards: unified objects and LWCs provided a single operational view of railcars, vehicles, yard sections, and statuses.
  • Reduced manual errors & misloads: validation logic, rules-based assignments, and controlled ramp-code restrictions minimized process gaps.
  • Significant reduction in operational friction: replacing legacy components and paper workflows with modern LWCs reduced effort for drivers and supervisors.
