Summary

A global nonprofit assessed its 10,000+ members' activity at the end of every year using a patchwork of tools, including Excel spreadsheets — a process that grew complex and disorganized as membership kept rising. INNERLUXES built a transparent performance management system on top of Microsoft SharePoint 2013 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, with 49 metrics, SharePoint forms for member reporting, CRM-driven analytics, and custom charts and dashboards, plus a faceted search for the portal's e-learning section.

About the Client

The Client is a US-headquartered non-profit organization operating worldwide. It supports more than 10,000 entrepreneurs and contributes to their professional growth.

A Growing Membership Made Year-End Performance Tracking Unmanageable

The Client runs a SharePoint-based portal that unites all members on a single hub, where members form clusters by geographic location and the portal hosts individual and cluster profiles along with resources to collaborate and build business skills. Under a strict corporate policy, members must stay active to keep or upgrade their membership, so at the end of each year the Client evaluated members' activity — but as membership grew, doing this with various tools and standard Excel spreadsheets became complex and disorganized. The Client engaged INNERLUXES to solve the performance management challenge.

A Performance Management System Pairing SharePoint With Dynamics CRM

INNERLUXES built the performance management subsystem as a tight tandem of Microsoft SharePoint 2013 and Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, in two modules:

  • Performance metrics. The INNERLUXES CRM consultants brought together 49 metrics in three groups to evaluate clusters and their leaders and the overall participation of members in community activities. SharePoint developers created input forms directly on the portal so registered members and cluster representatives can report their activities to the responsible managers.
  • Performance analytics and reporting. Members' performance data is accumulated and processed in the CRM system. Using SharePoint's out-of-the-box analytics and Chart.js, the team built custom reporting on the portal — five types of charts and five types of dashboards — so all members can see the assessment results, styled to match the organization's corporate branding.

The Client also asked INNERLUXES to tailor a custom search for the portal's e-learning section, where members organize and announce learning sessions and invite others to take part. The team delivered a customized, branded SharePoint-powered search that lets users quickly find relevant training events and sort them by country, region, fee price, speaker's gender, topic, and date.

Transparent, Streamlined Performance Assessment

INNERLUXES delivered a fully functional performance management system built to the Client's requirements. The integration of SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics CRM improved data collection and metric calculation, making the whole performance-assessment process simpler and transparent. Along the way, INNERLUXES also implemented various enhancements to the Client's SharePoint portal that improved collaboration between the organization and its members.
