Project Solution

INNERLUXES rewrote an application originally developed in Cordova into Flutter, modernizing the underlying software for optimized app store and mobile-device compatibility.

Overview

The Client needed a web and mobile application to predict tidal fluctuation for US coastlines. The weather company serves a wide range of users seeking knowledge about coastal-related activities. The application provides essential information on tidal heights and times; sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset times; and moon phases for over 2,500 precise locations across coasts. Users finalize their desired location by selecting a region, area, zone, and site, along with start and end dates for their location of interest.

A Need for Modern Software

The application had become incompatible with Google Play Store and iOS requirements. Wanting to ensure usability for its customers, the Client sought a software development partner to modernize the application. Unable to keep up with evolving app-store and AdMob requirements, the previous version was causing lost revenue, and bugs in the underlying code led to UI glitches such as empty spots on the screen. A well-functioning app was important, since up to two-thirds of all predictions the Client's customer base made were performed using the app.

The Client requested a third revision of the app — modernizing the underlying software plus minor layout and UI tuning. With previous revisions built on Cordova, INNERLUXES completely rewrote the mobile application in Flutter, incorporating bug fixes, updates, and other enhancements to deliver a smooth user experience.

The Project

Using the Flutter framework and Dart language with MVC architecture and GetX for state management, INNERLUXES rewrote the mobile application for compatibility with a wide range of the newest devices, as well as up-to-date Mac and Windows OS systems. The modernization process leveraged modern software tools and incorporated all modern and existing privacy rules and up-to-date AdSense/AdMob ad code.

The final solution included features for a home screen, a location-selection screen, retrieving and saving tide details, favorite locations, and a privacy policy — all delivered through a modern, glitch-free interface.

The Impact

  • The tide prediction application was modernized to ensure smooth functionality and usability for the foreseeable future.
  • Restored compatibility with current Google Play Store, iOS, and AdMob/AdSense requirements, addressing the prior revenue loss.
  • A rewritten Flutter codebase eliminated UI glitches and improved the overall experience across the newest devices.
  • A maintainable, modern foundation that keeps the product up to date as technology evolves.
