The Challenge

The Client had developed a SharePoint employee portal for 20,000+ potential users. It needed to check whether the new portal's functionality complied with the requirements specification. As data from the Client's legacy platform was migrated to the new portal, it also needed to validate the seamless migration of that data. Additionally, since the Client's employees were located internationally, it needed to verify the portal's ability to identify users by location and adapt the navigation language accordingly.

The Solution

INNERLUXES's test team studied the requirements for the portal's functionality and, based on them, outlined the scope of testing activities — functional, data migration, and localization testing.

To check whether the portal's functionality matched what the Client specified, INNERLUXES's test team performed functional testing combining exploratory and scripted approaches. The exploratory approach let engineers quickly investigate the portal's core functionality and find critical defects that could impede interaction. With the scripted approach, the team created comprehensive checklists for every requirement to be validated — for example, verifying the processes of creating documents, events, news, and surveys; sending and receiving notifications; accessing user profiles; and more.

To validate the migration of data from the legacy system to the new portal, the engineers carried out data migration testing, verifying the integrity of the migrated data and confirming the portal's functionality met the Client's requirements after migration.

The team then carried out localization testing, checking whether the portal could identify users by location and adapt the navigation language (English or Spanish) and localized content accordingly.

Defects uncovered during testing were reported to the Client. Once fixed, the engineers retested the functionality in question and performed regression testing to ensure the fixes did not harm or alter the portal's intended behavior.

The Results
